CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Police say five young people were in a Ford Fusion that crossed in front of an Amtrak passenger train near Detroit, killing all five people in the car.
Canton Township police say the victims included a 14-year-old female from Wayne and four young men: an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old from Taylor, a 19-year-old from Woodhaven, and a 21-year-old from Stafford, Va. Family had been notified, but the names were still being withheld to allow for extended family members to be reached, police said. Police say the train was carrying about 170 people when it struck the car about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, about 20 miles west of Detroit. No one was reported hurt aboard the train, though one person had an asthma attack.
