'Maker Faire Detroit' contraptions bonanza sets up
Posted: 7/31/2010

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — A contraptions bonanza that celebrates arts, crafts, engineering and technology takes place this weekend in Dearborn.

The two-day "Maker Faire Detroit" takes place Saturday and Sunday inside and outside Henry Ford Museum. Maker Faire was started by Make magazine, a how-to publication for people who love to tinker with stuff.

Displays are expected to include a device that pumps out notes from ship and train air horns, an art car covered with electromechanical fish and lobsters, and a skeeball machine made from parts including spare lumber and PVC pipe.

The first Maker Faire was held in 2006 in San Mateo, Calif.

Henry Ford Museum is part of The Henry Ford, a suburban Detroit attraction that includes Greenfield Village.
